If you terminate employment you have the option of leaving your employee contributions at MERS or requesting a refund. (Contributions left at MERS do not earn interest.) A refund of contributions forfeits the service credit you earned.
A copy of your social security card and driver’s license (or other government issued ID) must be submitted with the completed MERS form titled “Refund Application Packet.” The processing of your refund will be delayed if the identification documents are not received with the application.
Refunded contributions may be rolled over to a qualified retirement account or sent directly to your bank account.
For a direct refund, one of the following must be attached:
a. A voided check (pre-printed) for a checking account in the member’s name
b. Bank issued direct deposit form.
