1. When will I be eligible
for retirement?
If you are a member of Plan A, you must have at least 25 years of service credit to retire at any age, at least 10 years of service credit to retire at age 60 and 20 years of service credit for early retirement.
If you are a member of Plan B, you must have at least 30 years of service credit to retire at any age and at least 10 years of service credit to retire at age 60.
2. I have terminated my employment and want a refund of my contributions. When will I receive my check?
You must be terminated for 30 days before the retirement system can issue you a refund check.
3. Can I purchase service credit from another retirement system?
Yes, after you have been an active contributing member of this system for six months you can complete an application to transfer you service credit. You will need to send a check in the amount of $40.00 made payable to MERS with your application.
4. When are the monthly retirement checks mailed?
The last day of each month. If the last day of the month falls on a Sunday, the checks will be mailed on Saturday.
5. What if I do not receive my check in the mail?
We must wait 10 days from the day we mailed your check before we can stop payment on a check and reissue a new check. Please do not call the office until the 10th of the month if you have not received your check.
6. When will my monthly benefit be in my account if I choose direct deposit?
Your money will be in your account on the first working day of the month. If the 1st of the month is on the Saturday or Sunday, it will be in your account on Monday. If the 1st of the month falls on a Holiday, then you will receive your money the following business day.
